Waterfront Lifeguarding

Although a course might end, our involvement with our students continues.  All course participants are enrolled into our job placement program!

If you are interested in working in a fun environment and want to help keep your community safe, lifeguarding may be the career for you.

This class teaches the skills to prevent, recognize and effectively respond to aquatic emergencies at a pool or a non-surf waterfront facility like a lake or a beach.

Prerequisites:

*You must be 15 years of age on or before the last day of class
*All students are required to swim 550 yards continuously
*200 yards of front crawl
*200 yards of breaststroke

*150 yards of either front crawl or breaststroke

*Swim 20 yards continuously using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, return to the surface, swim back to the starting point holding the object with two hands, and exit the pool from the side. This skill must be completed within 1 minute and 40 seconds.

*Swim 5 yards, submerge and retrieve three dive rings placed 5 yards apart in 4-7 feet of water, resurface and swim 5 yards to the

side of the pool.
 

Course Requirements:

In order to pass the course, all students must complete the pre-course skills, the lifeguarding skills, attend all classes and score at least an 80% on all written exams.

 

Completed Certifications:

Upon completion of the course, all participants will hold certifications in:

* Lifeguarding / Waterfront
* First Aid
* CPR/AED for the professional Rescue
The Lifeguarding / Waterfront / First Aid certification is valid for 2 years

 

The CPR/AED for the professional Rescue certification is valid for 2 year

Course hours: 37 hours based on a 10-person class

 

You Must have a current Red Cross Lifeguard certification in order to the the waterfront bridge course!
