Lifeguarding
Completed Certifications:
Upon completion of the course, all participants will hold certifications in:
* Lifeguarding
* First Aid
* CPR/AED for the professional Rescue
*The Lifeguarding/First Aid certification is valid for 2 years
*The CPR/AED for the professional Rescue certification is valid for 2 years
However Lifeguard working in New York State are required by the State to renew CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid Annually.
Course hours: The online session for the Lifeguarding course has 16 modules. Each module takes approximately 15-30 minutes to complete. Instruction time for the in-person sessions is 21 hours and 30 minutes not including breaks.

Although a course might end, our involvement with our students continues. All course participants are enrolled into our job placement program!

American Red Cross Lifeguarding is ideal for those wishing to work at traditional pools.
Prerequisites:
15 years of age on or before the last date of the course

Complete a swim- tread-swim sequence: Jump into the water submerge resurface swim 150 yards (using the front crawl breaststroke or a combination of both) maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs then swim 50 yards using the front crawl breaststroke or a combination of both.

Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.

Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.

Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance under water.

Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

Course Requirements:
In order to pass the course, all students must complete all online course content in advance of the in-person sessions, complete all the pre-course skills, the lifeguarding skills, attend all classes and score at least an 80% on all written exams.
*Lifeguard review courses follow the same pre-requisite and in course requirements.
